About me

About me - qualification as behaviour counsellor

My name is Laia Cabré. My enthusiasm for cats started very early, when I was given a kitten for my 5th birthday. A few years later, that tomcat became increasingly aggressive and my parents sadly brought him away. Since then I have always wondered how and why it happened and whether we could have prevented it. Later on, during my studies, I got my soul cat Lluneta - 2002 - 2017 and high jump champion tomcat Kakarot. They showed me how cats can understand and support us and how intelligent they are.

I've lived with cats almost my whole life, and over time I've learned to appreciate them more and more.

I currently live in Stuttgart with my playful cats Dana and Angie.

In my free time I like to travel and take photos.

I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree in molecular biology and genetics.

During my studies I already took an introductory course on feline ethology. But because I wanted to know a lot more about cats, I decided to complete the distance learning course on animal psychology - specialisation in cats from the German Academy for Animal Naturopathy (ATN) in 2017-2018.

The course covered the following subjects:

  • General ethology
  • Ethogram
  • Behavioural physiology
  • Behavioural ecology
  • The origins of the domestic cat, Felis lybica
  • Wild and Domestic Cat Ethology
  • Feline nutrition
  • Cats' feelings and expressiveness
  • Problems of the felidae in captivity
  • Domestic cat ethology: breeds, domestication, senses, communication, social-, hunting-, sexual-, territorial- and learning behaviour
  • Cognition in animals
  • Cat personalities and relationships
  • Cat keeping and multiple cat households
  • Entertainment and play
  • Behavioural & environmental enrichment
  • Stress
  • Therapy tools and diagnostic techniques
  • Problematic behaviour and solution approaches

Because I consider lifelong learning essential, I often attend workshops on feline behaviour.

- Furthermore I am a member of Miezpertise, the Membership for cat behaviour counselors of C. Hauschild, which offers workshops with several experts on the field.
